Hi EcoChallenger,
Good for you trying to learn all you can. There is a lot of passion within many branches of the Environmental movement, and at times this can overwhelm. I have learned the hard way: reality wins, and nature is neither tidy nor does it conform itself to our human projected ideals. Anyone claiming that something is simple is rarely looking at all of reality ;^D. Nature is very complicated, so the issues are, too. So will be any solution.

Most animals in Western Zoos were born in captivity, from parents who were born in captivity, and sometimes this can go back several generations. These animals are accustomed to human contact, and have no "wild culture": they have not been taught the survival skills necessary to live in the wild. Most Western zoos and aquariums participate in large, organized and highly successful conservation programs which do raise animals for release into the wild.

You think zoos are a heated debate? Try conservation hunting! ;^D

The Earth is our Mother ... we must take care of her. The earth, the wind, the fire, the water ... and all of the Beings who live within each of these elements. Not just human beings, but ALL living beings.

Hi EcoChallenger. I'm glad you're here trying to learn about our earth and the problems the world is faced with. I just want to touch quickly on something you said. I'm an avid animal lover and even though I take children to the zoo, I also teach them the importance of the animals living free. I always remember the earth was THEIRS before it was ours. I can't imagine life without animals, not being able to wake up to singing birds, not having a creek in the woods to sit by and dangle my feet in. I'm stuck in a city where I have to really focus to hear the birds and I have to watch the sunrise and sunset through smog. This is NOT my idea of fun. Animals do NOT deserve to be caged for any reason. HOw would you feel if YOU were put in a cage and observed? Learn all you can. Don't be one of those people who sit back and wait for everyone else to do it all for you while you live with blinders on!! We, as people, are ruining life as we know it, as our parents knew it. Us being superior does NOT make us God and gives us no reason to slaughter animals for money or wipe out forests for industrial parks! I'm all riled up now!!!

Hmmmmm...isn't that what life's all about, survival of the fittest? I'm trying to learn all I can about why so many seem to be obsessed with the Eco problem. Some points I see, some I totally disagree with. Because of the increased human population and the need to grow with technology, how can there forever be room for both humans and animals? And aren't 'breeding pens' a good way for animals to keep from becoming extinct???

Beautifully said. Your words are a reminder for me to go deeper within to find Truth that can lead a restless soul to peace. "Let us join our hands and hearts together, united by our common place of birth. We are the human family, sister, brother and we celebrate the Earth." Those are some of the lyrics to a song I co-wrote a few years back. Your words reminded me of them just now. Before entering into the discussion here I watched the video "The Man Who Planted Trees." That story is a true inspiration. I just feel love pour from that story as I learn, again and again, the importance of patience and persistence, steady mindful action, and belief that change will happen.

Oh that would be a journey for sure Jeanette! What a stunning picture of the tiger. Tonight I happened across a documentary on CBC here called, "The Dolphin Dealer". The dealer believes he is saving dolphins from the culture that slaughters them. Having been a dolphin trainer, I believe, he teaches the people how to take care of them and creates breeding pens. He then sends them to aquamarine parks who pay big money for the dolphins. This supports him and his dream and the villages that helped to prepare the dolphins. Of course there is quite a controversary over this and there are valid points on each side. If you do not look beyond the appearances and what the divine message may be you can become absorbed in what side you should be on and even justify one side or the other. Being a dolphin lover and attuned to their energies I know this serves a purpose on several levels. Even though some of it is challenging to see. The ultimate lesson is we have to honour all beings. Instead of using each other for selfish gain or even survival remember we have the power within to create a world that is abundant and Self sustaining without harm or dishonouring any part of the earth or life. This is I believe the greatest awakening we are currently undertaking and I also believe that with more and more of us gathering and assisting in any way possible great change will occur!
