WHOLENESS: We are One

“The Earth is the seat of spirituality, the foundation from which our cultures and languages flourish. The Earth is our historian, the keeper of events and bones of our forefathers. Earth provides us food, medicine, shelter and clothing. It is the source of our independence; it is our Mother. We do not dominate her; we must harmonize with her." I have lots of photos posted on my website of the La Chureca dump and the people who live inside of it. The youth I am teaching have taken the photos. I am so proud of them, as their skills keep improving due to their interest in photography, video production and their community. The photos can be seen at www.jeanettemcdermott.org

I saw the document about the dump in Managua and was shocked. The projects helping to support the people there is an excellent on e much need of help and support itself. The document reminds me of the dump in Manila which was documented last year on Japanese media. I also hold these people in my prayers. I have a newspaper clipping of the dump in Manila near my recycle boxes and garbage to remind of our brothrs and sisters living there every day. Cleaning up the dump our garbage is defenitly a nice start to global change on all levels, especialy a human one

Alejandro has posted some blogs about the poverty in Nicaragua and the people who live in the dump in Managua, Central America's largest waste landfill. The people eat out of the dump. The rotten and tainted scraps in the landfill are the source of their daily food supply. The poverty level and living conditions in a place like the La Chureca dump are unthinkable to those of us who live in a wealthy developed nation. It's true what you say, Nodedog, that while we argue, debate and pontificate nutritional choices people in other parts of the world are suffering from diseases and illness from poor diet and starving, literally, to death. As we go into our Thanksgiving holiday I hold these people in my prayers and thoughts and give deep thanks for a healthy body that is made possible through food availability, medical care and an economy and government system that allows me to buy clean food. I have so much and millions of others have so little. I am deeply grateful for all I have and am glad that you, nodedog, have nudged us to frame the discussion of food within a global perspective. Namaste.

Raw foods are yummy!
I love my vegetables, and I am fully omnivorous. My take on this is that we evolved as omnivores (our teeth, forward facing eyes, digestive systems, etc are those of omnivores), so eating optimally healthily means including meat and fish, in balance. I choose sustainably raised/caught meat and fish, that do not endanger the environment. Better for them to enhance it.
I respect other peoples personal choices, as long as they respect mine. There are no one-size fits all solutions, except thinking things through for yourself and trying!

I love the video! Now, with that said, let me say this..lol. Last week I went five days without meat and let me tell you I thought I was gonna die! I was weak, pale, depressed...and all I could think about was that grill out back with a big juicy T-bone on it. I craved beef, I tasted it without anything in my mouth, I dreamt of beef. I got so physically weak I had to have meat. The next day I felt normal again. Part of my problem is that I don't like vegetable, never have..so most of my diet is meat. What's wrong with eating meat anyway? God gave us permission to do so. :)

I was so inspired by soothsayre's Mother Earth's Table column on Monday that I've been eating raw foods all week. And I feel good -- healthy! This video is a great thing to watch. There's a testimony on the video about a man who lost 250 pounds by going raw food. And Ning even has a raw food social network, which I joined yesterday! Thank you, soothsayre! If you haven't been to Mother Earth's Table yet, go there now.

I came to a Spanish-speaking country with no knowledge of the language. To learn it, I have immersed myself into a full cultural experience. That's what we need for the environment, a complete immersion into the full Earth experience. After a month of thinking and acting differently, there it would be for each of us -- a renewal, a total transformation. A new being. Psychology experts say that's what it takes to break an old habit and establish a new pattern: one month. That's all. Out of a lifetime, how easy to focus for just one month on adopting new lifestyle choices, learning and sharing our knowledge with others. It isn't overwhelming when I think of it like that. Just through a little bit of focus and practice, like learning this new language for me, we can attain new goals. And reaching these goals will result in a sustainable and healed Earth. But it starts with believing. We have to believe.

Diana I am sooo with you! in fact I used to be a recluse. But I decided I needed to try to right some of the wrongs going on. It is very hard for me because what I see hurts me and I can become very cynical.

When did we lose touch with the land, the creatures, the children? When did we trade stargazing for watching a movie? When did we allow our children to torture animals and not punish them for it? Where did all the trees go????? Why do ppl think it's funny to knock down a bird's nest full of eggs or babies? I'm not understanding people anymore. Why can't we have the option of living with people or without them? Cuz I can tell you now, I CAN live without people, but I canNOT live without nature.

ECO KUDOS

With both acknowledged and possible calamities as compelling and urgent
catalysts, Raincoast Conservation is advocating for British Columbia's first fully protected salmon runs. The move is an effort to save the grizzly bear species.

This bold and ambitious proposal runs contrary to the historical underpinnings of salmon management, as fisheries managers have always assumed that salmon exist exclusively for human consumption.

According to Raincoast, it is a matter of competition, and the odds are stacked against carnivores in these coastal salmon forests.
