Howdy! From a professional shnuffler* ...

* shnuffler (noun) seeker of the internal, the underneath, the essence, the core of all that a shnuffler fancies. Perpetually curious. Relentless researcher.
To shnuffle (verb) The act of digging in, researching, getting deeply lost in the fascination of a treasured topic.

i.e. They gathered to shnuffle near and far. To find the guts of the Earth and the middle of a distant star. Shnufflers one, and shnufflers all, they looked and they looked. But could not find the end. At last, they cried, "Perhaps the Big Bang was not really the beginning. An idea passe!" But glad that they shnuffled, they declared, "Just another Big Bang. Ah well, Allay! The Universe is really a blast for shnuffling, anyway!"

˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜˜

I practice as a writer/artist, storyteller, healing practitioner, avid reader, astrologer, green thumb, relentlessly curious, meditating, science-minded, energetic, grin-inclined yogini and lover of nature/beauty/music/systems/movement/art & culture/mycology/permaculture/Earth & Space science. Basically I'm a get things going kind of perpetual optimist who is ever so grateful for all the many moment by moment blessings that make my life so lovely.

These many blessings are just too many to keep all to my little horde of me and mine and me-ful, so I commit my life to service in joy. To share my light and humor with all who can benefit by knowing my words through storytelling, through my art, my commitment to action and to gathering community. All this, I dedicate to inspire a sense of purpose in everyone I meet. May we all rise above the fear-based and dis-empowering programming of consumer culture and turn to Nature, and to one another to share our truths. As within, so we create around us. May everyone come to know their light and live in peace and harmony with their chosen tour here on Earth.

I believe that each and every individual is far from helpless despite what mainstream media tries to indoctrinate. Together in community, our power is infinite. We possess the power to create a just and humane world. I strive to serve the vision of a global community that shines its powerful beam of intention to heal humanity's disconnection from Nature.

What do you love most about Ma Earth?
Excerpt from the would-be "Wanderin' Eye's Guide to the Milky Way": Ma Earth–(ma-irth, noun of a quite substantial proportion, relatively speaking) comprised completely of stardust which disguises in the most astonishing array of variant forms found anywhere within eyeshot of our nearest friendly neighboring star. From the seamount uprisings of as many as 4,000 thousand meters upwards the seafloor to the 8,848 meters above sea level called Everest and from lofty leaf-eating mammalia, as are giraffa camelopardalis to the exotic, most extreme of the extremophile, the Alvinella pompejana, whose personality we may only guess at. Though we might rightly imagine, it would be one that could run "hot/cold."

Ma Earth is a place of ever-renewing creative expression. How stardust ever came to be so expressive seems to be a mystery we will never stop seeking the answer to. And though the answer finds infinite ways to play hide and seek with us, it's a game we will never tire of playing. And so it is, our Light Being selves endlessly reach for the stars that whisper mythologies into our nightly wanderings, reach for the freedom to fly from the weight of this ol' Ma Eternal –till our local star becomes a super nova. Once again, it'll blow up to produce more of the heavy elements such as those from which we all began. Don't worry! That'll be a long long time from now.

And then again, too much wandering out into the ol' Eternal Out There seems to always have us hauling on back to Ma. Our most gorgeous, intriguing and infinitely changing stage for discovery, our banquet for the relishing of an endless feast for our eyes, nose, ears, hearts and souls and of course, all that is complimentary and inspiring to our alimentary systems. That is, that complex, physiologic allegory for the transformative power of the heavens. All inspired through, for instance, a lovely pinot noir with a plate of divine, light as a feather stroking an eyelid tiramiso. All taken in perhaps, while contemplating a far off nebula– a nursery of infant stars. It might be safe to say that a neutrino may not be as delicious as nutrition. But then again, it's all made up of the same stuff. Bits of stardust we all are.

Wow! What's not to love about Ma? She's the girl of my dreams.
What environmental issue concerns you most?
Unbridled consumerism. Ignorance of how our world monetary system is designed.
Who is your Eco Hero/Heroine?
Penny Livingston-Stark with her Regenerative Design Institute who also probably knows more songs than any other environmentalist alive. And Dr. Wangari Maathai who's blessed our Earth with sooooo many trees. She has the coolest name and her story and beautiful face can be seen in Wikipedia.
What actions are you taking to help heal the Earth?
I just tell little old stories about whatever comes up that can connect a person with the most alive and loving part of our beings. Every person's a living painting just waiting to be seen, just waiting to offer a glimmer of inspiration to another. And another after that. I like to tell stories that inspire community to form. I like seeing the dreams people carry around inside themselves and I'm especially blessed when I get to witness those dreams come alive.
What's the best eco quote you've ever heard?
From a San Francisco neighborhood Mexican restaurant, "Quite su proprio basura, no somos su mama" (Deal with your own trash, we're not your mother.)
What is your favorite green website?
http://ecopaparazzi.ning.com
What gives you the greatest hope for the future of the planet?
The look of intense awake-ness I notice in all the newcomers to our planet who I'm blessed with meeting. Our newborns have something to show us all.
What else would you like to tell us about yourself?
These are a few of my favorite things ... meeting new people in interesting places, making new friends wherever I go, scratching around with the worms, building soil, growing food, cooking for many gathered in my warm kitchen, making art of all kinds, psychic whispering with the stars, watching planets set, practicing the art of "awakening the healer within" with anyone who's curious, finger-painting with languages, readin' and writin,' yoga at dawn, reveling in the sound of many tongues, wandering long roads and hoofin' as many meandering trails as this youthful body will carry me along. And of course, shootin' the shit with any shit shooter long into the night, till the moon swandives into the Pacific.

And I live up in the California Sierras in the outback nestled near the little town of Truckee, which is a place I consider a grand one for welcoming the wandering eco-traveller. If that's you and you're planning on passing through, drop me a line and come on up. We get one heck of a lot of stars and the snow's not half bad when it finally does fall.
What is your funniest eco moment?
Well I'll be darned...

Camilla,
Thanks for the compliments. I have been enjoying sharing what I have learned so far as well as what inspires me. My (web) friend Anthony built a solar greenhouse just recently so he may have some insights into any nuances about the process. He is at http://rawmodelcom.blogspot.com/
Thanks again.

Peace,
Curtis

ECO KUDOS

The Indianapolis Prize is the largest individual monetary award for animal species conservation in the world and is given as an unrestricted gift to the chosen honoree by the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation.

The award is not designed to be a quiet, academic, scientist-focused event, but instead an energetic and spectacular celebration of conservation victories. The goal is to inspire the general public to start caring about conservation, and to place heroes, who live in tents in danger of both wild beasts and poachers, on the pedestal that we usually reserve for sports and entertainment stars.

The recent East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress held in Manila, Philippines, concluded with the signing of the Agreement Recognizing the Legal Personality of Partnerships in the Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia. This Agreement creates a fully-fledged international body to work for sustainable development of the region’s coastal and marine areas.

With both acknowledged and possible calamities as compelling and urgent
catalysts, Raincoast Conservation is advocating for British Columbia's first fully protected salmon runs. The move is an effort to save the grizzly bear species.

This bold and ambitious proposal runs contrary to the historical underpinnings of salmon management, as fisheries managers have always assumed that salmon exist exclusively for human consumption.

According to Raincoast, it is a matter of competition, and the odds are stacked against carnivores in these coastal salmon forests.

TAKE ACTION!

Become part of the Backyard Revolution and landscape for wildlife.

Replace your lawn with native shrubs, flowers and trees. Plant a butterfly garden, and put in a pond. You'll benefit from the beauty and tranquility of your yard, and wildlife will benefit from the food and water sources that you provide.

Need some guidance? Read the book Bringing Nature Home.

Half of all animal species will be extinct in our lifetime, unless emissions peak by 2020. Cut greenhouse gas emissions by reducing your energy consumption, learning more about climate change and getting active in community efforts to heal the Earth. Become part of the solution.

Feed the hungry.
Save indigenous people.
Stand up for workers' rights.

Be kind to animals.
