What actions are you taking to help heal the Earth?
I have a very small carbon print, I peddle, paddle and sail everywhere and have only ever owned one car which I sold inless than a year. What is your favorite green website?

What gives you the greatest hope for the future of the planet?
Most folks would like to have a place for themselves and the families to call home and earth is it. We should stop trying to screw up space while we are at it Outer space as well as iner space should be left totally free of Comerical interest. In less tha 500 years we have nearly destroyed this planet let us leave the rest alone.

Sails can help save the planet

I was very glad to hear this as I thought that they were being silent on this matter, which made very little sense. I however was just looking in the wrong place and stand pleasantly corrected. Greg

Hi Greg -
We're ready for you at the Ursa Freedom Project Action Network. So if you haven't transitioned yet, come on over. We need you! I'd love to have a kayak regatta to raise funds for the campaign. Think this idea could work?

How interesting! I am fascinated by the people who dream up these online notions. Who would have ever thought .... Now, if you can just figure out how to take virtual photos while sailing the seven seas, we could all see where you've been and share in the beauty you experience on the open waters. I wouldn't have a clue how to even get started in sailboat, virtually or offline. Nah, I'll stick with what's currently got me charged up... the liberation of bile bears. That will keep me overwhelmed with work for six months.

Hey, is there a way you can promote the Ursa Freedom Project as you sail the seas? Is there a place for a banner on your boat?

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the sailing race. How do you enter headwinds and get set back if the race if virtual? I think it would be fun to feature you on the main page next week when I upload new copy on Saturday night. But I would want to get a handle on this racing business in order to talk about it in one sentence. So is it like a video game? Or is it like online chess? Or is it something different altogether? Are you in touch with other sailors as they navigate their boats through the virtual waters? I like that you promote paddle sports as an active and healthy lifestyle. I think that's a cool eco-activist spirit!

I just visited your blog. I had no idea you were on a sailing competition. What a story! How long have you been on the water? I would love to read about your sailing activities on your profile page. So would others! One day when you have time, let's work on updating your profile page so it tells us about the adventure buff that you are, and a kidney transplant survivor and water activist at that. Your story is inspiring. Would you mind sharing it?

Stay on them. You need a watchdog group that forces the issue in the media, green organizations, schools, etc. It's odd that Suzuki Foundation and 1M Acts of Green has done nothing. Is this in the same vicinity of the tar sands development? If so, you could unify your voice with them. There is strong opposition for tar sands development, but not enough. Giant industry is raping the tar sands, with the blessings of government, and the wildlife, especially the birds, are being sacrificed for greed. I'm so glad to know you are taking a stand. I"m proud of you, Greg. Keep it up. Make lots of ((NOISE))), and keep us informed here. I'll write up something for ecopaparazzi. Where do I find your blog that you mention writing? What's the URL?

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo! This can't happen! Are the eco warriors coming out in full body armor? Greg, send me all of the URLs where I can get the scoop. I'll start with the one you sent, but if you know of others that are picking up threads of info or setting up networks to address the issue, let me know. Thanks for the tip!

Do you know anybody in the thick of the action to stop this madness?

OK, let's light a fire under somebody's feet! It's a weird thing about governments and industry. On the one hand, Canada is doing great -- Toronto was named one of the top 10 cities to be a mega eco-hub of the world. And then on the other hand, Canada is wiping out some of its last remaining contiguous forests and BC doesn't have an endangered species act. Go figure!

I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to have some Groups form that are localized for discussion. I've received some emails about local versus global. It could be a good way to help catalyze folks to action, especially as we grow in numbers. Any thoughts?

ECO KUDOS

The Indianapolis Prize is the largest individual monetary award for animal species conservation in the world and is given as an unrestricted gift to the chosen honoree by the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation.

The award is not designed to be a quiet, academic, scientist-focused event, but instead an energetic and spectacular celebration of conservation victories. The goal is to inspire the general public to start caring about conservation, and to place heroes, who live in tents in danger of both wild beasts and poachers, on the pedestal that we usually reserve for sports and entertainment stars.

The recent East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress held in Manila, Philippines, concluded with the signing of the Agreement Recognizing the Legal Personality of Partnerships in the Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia. This Agreement creates a fully-fledged international body to work for sustainable development of the region’s coastal and marine areas.

With both acknowledged and possible calamities as compelling and urgent
catalysts, Raincoast Conservation is advocating for British Columbia's first fully protected salmon runs. The move is an effort to save the grizzly bear species.

This bold and ambitious proposal runs contrary to the historical underpinnings of salmon management, as fisheries managers have always assumed that salmon exist exclusively for human consumption.

According to Raincoast, it is a matter of competition, and the odds are stacked against carnivores in these coastal salmon forests.

TAKE ACTION!

Become part of the Backyard Revolution and landscape for wildlife.

Replace your lawn with native shrubs, flowers and trees. Plant a butterfly garden, and put in a pond. You'll benefit from the beauty and tranquility of your yard, and wildlife will benefit from the food and water sources that you provide.

Need some guidance? Read the book Bringing Nature Home.

Half of all animal species will be extinct in our lifetime, unless emissions peak by 2020. Cut greenhouse gas emissions by reducing your energy consumption, learning more about climate change and getting active in community efforts to heal the Earth. Become part of the solution.

Feed the hungry.
Save indigenous people.
