Lake and land pollution

More about me.. my wife and I have 6 kids, two of them are still at home. I am 45+ years old. I paddled since I was 17 but only seriously for the past year or so. I love to kayak and love to camp so kayak-camping is what I do for fun. Some of my hobbies are.. -GPS mapping -kayaking -camping -experimenting with webpage design -hiking -backpacking -cliff climbing -repelling The first 4 are my favorites the others I enjoy but due to overuse of my legs when I was younger don't do so much now. (Photo taken by my friend Heidi at Vaseaux Lake N49 18.185 W119 32.151) The Okanagan Valley where I live in the desert! "You will find that the Sonoran Desert extends into Canada from Osoyoos Lake to Skaha Lake and then westward up the Similkameen Valley towards Keremeos. The desert is approximately 15 miles long. The average rainfall is less than 12 inches per year and summer temperatures can rise to over 100 degrees." (http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/beautiful_bc/100074)

I"m taking a break from postings about Whaling Wars and crimes on the open sea, and am easing into something a little more tranquil, which makes me think of you kayaking in peaceful waters. Here's a painting from one of my favorite sites Heron Dance to brighten your day and help me reflect on calmness to balance the eco wars.

oh yeh, that might be a reason for the bare hills alright, and then again .... there are folks lurking everywhere waiting for the chance to do a dastardly deed in the forests. I've been researching deforestation for so many months, years now that my mind immediately goes there. Sad but true commentary on our state of affairs worldwide. Heavy sigh. But also sigh of relief that in the big South O those hills might just be barren due to natural causes like no water. Hmmmm, there it is again. But how natural are droughts when we've created climate change? OMG, stop the brain I want to get off! :)

Ahhh, there's the hairdoo and face I recognize. Nice beard. I see the North India Tour Guide advertising blogger has found your site. He's a flaming spammer. That same dude has come back under 5 aliases in the past two months at Ursa Freedom Project. Good luck getting rid of him.

Well holy smokes! would you look at that!!!! Bingo! But here's the thing. If I type the /m and see everything blackberry style, does that mean everybody else will too? And if it shows up blackberry style, does that me ice age dinosaurs using a CPU will see it that way too, or will it automatically show regular on CPU? Pray tell, do help me get this all straight now that you're bringing me into the dawning of the age of aquarius.

You rock, you little mohawk techie you! But tell me now, captain oh captain of the kayak crew, how do I get that /m to show up each time so folks benefit from it? Do I type it each time I log into the URL? Each time I go to another page it seems like would have to remember to type the slash m. Or is there a permanent action I need to take in preferences? I'm gonna practice and see what happens. But if you've got a good answer, I'd sure love to hear it.

Will you be growing some hair while you're away? Yeh, I know ... that head lice can be pesky, calling for a clean shave of the old scalparoo. Paddle on my pal and drop in when ya get back to say hey.

Between the project in the dump in Managua, maintaining ecopaparazzi, organizing the global campaign to liberate 9,000 bears from crush cages, and being a university student in Spanish .. well, let me just say that instead of GuyTheHalfLizard, that could easily have been me falling off the table incoherent from too much rum and coke in the sun. But alas, the self-discipline I have somehow miraculously accumulated over the years prevents the downfall and keeps me ever upward in a standing position, with brain relatively intact, to tarry on and perform the eco warrior work at hand. In other words, I'm working my butt off but don't have time to stop and think about how insanely jam-packed my days have become. On weekends I try to get away in nature to take much needed breaks that don't come my way M-F. Ahhhhh, to return again to the days in Osa, lounging like a sloth in a hammock, hiking the rainforest and strolling the peaceful shoreline. I'll be heading back to Osa in April to refresh and renew my body and soul, and to take escape the horrors of Central America's largest waste dump. But then I'll return again to Managua after several weeks of R&R to continue the project with the kids living inside the dump. And you, dear coach, are somewhere paddling between this gps point and that one. No wonder Bud has been wandering the desert dunes like a half-mad nomad in search of a mirage ... he can't find you!

ECO KUDOS

With both acknowledged and possible calamities as compelling and urgent
catalysts, Raincoast Conservation is advocating for British Columbia's first fully protected salmon runs. The move is an effort to save the grizzly bear species.

This bold and ambitious proposal runs contrary to the historical underpinnings of salmon management, as fisheries managers have always assumed that salmon exist exclusively for human consumption.

According to Raincoast, it is a matter of competition, and the odds are stacked against carnivores in these coastal salmon forests.
