More about me.. my wife and I have 6 kids, two of them are still at home. I am 45+ years old. I paddled since I was 17 but only seriously for the past year or so. I love to kayak and love to camp so kayak-camping is what I do for fun. Some of my hobbies are.. -GPS mapping -kayaking -camping -experimenting with webpage design -hiking -backpacking -cliff climbing -repelling The first 4 are my favorites the others I enjoy but due to overuse of my legs when I was younger don't do so much now. "You will find that the Sonoran Desert extends into Canada from Osoyoos Lake to Skaha Lake and then westward up the Similkameen Valley towards Keremeos. The desert is approximately 15 miles long. The average rainfall is less than 12 inches per year and summer temperatures can rise to over 100 degrees." (http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/beautiful_bc/100074)

Hey YOU, it's about time you showed your mohawk here! Did I tell you I spent the month of October on Vancouver Island and Gabriola Island? I kept thinking I'd see you wash up along the shore in a battered kayak and you sea weary and exhausted from the effort to see me, but by golly ya never did step foot on sand. I guess you're still out there, way out yonder on the wide blue sea paddling in search of unknown GPS coordinates.

I"m taking a break from postings about Whaling Wars and crimes on the open sea, and am easing into something a little more tranquil, which makes me think of you kayaking in peaceful waters. Here's a painting from one of my favorite sites Heron Dance to brighten your day and help me reflect on calmness to balance the eco wars.

oh yeh, that might be a reason for the bare hills alright, and then again .... there are folks lurking everywhere waiting for the chance to do a dastardly deed in the forests. I've been researching deforestation for so many months, years now that my mind immediately goes there. Sad but true commentary on our state of affairs worldwide. Heavy sigh. But also sigh of relief that in the big South O those hills might just be barren due to natural causes like no water. Hmmmm, there it is again. But how natural are droughts when we've created climate change? OMG, stop the brain I want to get off! :)

Well holy smokes! would you look at that!!!! Bingo! But here's the thing. If I type the /m and see everything blackberry style, does that mean everybody else will too? And if it shows up blackberry style, does that me ice age dinosaurs using a CPU will see it that way too, or will it automatically show regular on CPU? Pray tell, do help me get this all straight now that you're bringing me into the dawning of the age of aquarius.

You rock, you little mohawk techie you! But tell me now, captain oh captain of the kayak crew, how do I get that /m to show up each time so folks benefit from it? Do I type it each time I log into the URL? Each time I go to another page it seems like would have to remember to type the slash m. Or is there a permanent action I need to take in preferences? I'm gonna practice and see what happens. But if you've got a good answer, I'd sure love to hear it.

ECO KUDOS

TreeHugger founder Graham Hill recently asked himself why he still ate meat. Eco kudos to Hill for asking this vital question. His answers might surprise you.

Eco kudos to Clownfish, a marketing company, for including environmental technology, eco-design, corporate responsibility and social media into their services for helping companies become more green.

Hooray for the UN for declaring 2010 International Year of Biodiversity. It is a celebration of life on earth and of the value of biodiversity for our lives. Be inspired and get involved! It is the actions of individuals that will ultimately make a difference for safeguarding biodiversity.

The Indianapolis Prize is the largest individual monetary award for animal species conservation in the world and is given as an unrestricted gift to the chosen honoree by the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation.

The award is not designed to be a quiet, academic, scientist-focused event, but instead an energetic and spectacular celebration of conservation victories. The goal is to inspire the general public to start caring about conservation, and to place heroes, who live in tents in danger of both wild beasts and poachers, on the pedestal that we usually reserve for sports and entertainment stars.

TAKE ACTION!

A Call to Green Blog Readers: TAKE BACK the Comment Boards!

Opponents of environmentalism and loudmouthed climate deniers have controlled them long enough.

By Brian Merchant, Planet Green
This message is going to be short, sweet, simple--and long overdue. It's time to take back the comment boards on green blogs and websites. They've been domineered by obstructionist opponents of science and climate action long enough. So what can we do? Comment back. Read more.

Learn why biodiversity is important. Ask a kid. Even a 3-year old understands the importance of bees for pollination.

Put Earth first in 2010. De-clutter your mind and reprogram it for green. Explore avenues for green activism. Beware of the Green Scare and loss of civil liberties. There are tips on how to do this at Planet Green.

Become part of the Backyard Revolution and landscape for wildlife.

Replace your lawn with native shrubs, flowers and trees. Plant a butterfly garden, and put in a pond. You'll benefit from the beauty and tranquility of your yard, and wildlife will benefit from the food and water sources that you provide.

Need some guidance? Read the book Bringing Nature Home.

Half of all animal species will be extinct in our lifetime, unless emissions peak by 2020. Cut greenhouse gas emissions by reducing your energy consumption, learning more about climate change and getting active in community efforts to heal the Earth. Become part of the solution.

Feed the hungry.
Save indigenous people.
Stand up for workers' rights.

Be kind to animals.
Stop factory farms.
Save 100 animals every year.

End deforestation for grazing.
Save an acre of trees.
End grazing on public lands.

Tell USDA 'Wildlife Services'
to stop killing wildlife for
corporate ranchers' profits.

Stop wars for resources.
Help end corporate rule.
Live your conscience.

Save our oceans.
Stop the #1 polluter of water.
Support a sustainable planet.

Think outside yourself.
