Oh Lucy, my heart is singing this morning after reading this. What wonderful and delightful news! You have created something beautiful and magical at SoL. One day maybe you could write up an article about SoL, as inspiration to others -- how a few people have created this space to bring the whole community together for Earth Healing. It would make a great blog. I just love the three new eco events at SoL, and the fact they involve Libby, Carol and Elise is pure joy. Has Libby moved to San Antonio? Feel free to post them here at ecopaparazzi, using the same copy and icon photos you've used at SoL on your calendar. I would love to post your events here.

I love you too. Always will.

Thank you so much!

Hi Lucy -
It's spring! Earth Day is nearly here, and that makes me think of all of my eco sisters walking the path for Earth Healing. It's time to say Thank You for your contributions. Keep me in the loop of anything in San Antonio that would be good to report on over here at ecopaparazzi. And Lucy, if you can help rescue and rehabilitate some bears, I'd love to see you at Ursa Freedom Project.

HAPPY NEW YEAR GODDESS OF THE WONDROUS GARDEN!!!

Hi Lucy - I'm crawling out of a crazed month. How are you?

I'm trying to catch up with getting the garden ready for winter, organizing my seeds for next year, and figuring out what to plant where next spring. We are container gardening, 8 floors up. I am planting for shade, bees, and some food - so my daughter learns early on the process of growing food and the value of bees. This year, we gathered carrot seeds from her garden trough, and we'll see if they grow in the spring. She helped me gather quite a few seeds, and plant the ones that need the winter cold to break out of dormancy.

We also garden indoors, with seeds and cuttings from tropical fruit.

How's gardening where you are?

Hi Lucy - I am starting a two week whirl away from home, and usually away from computers. I'll get back to you once I'm back and with dependable access online!

Hello, Lucy! I went camping in the Ho Rain Forest (Olympic Nat'l Park), oh-so-long-ago. Beautiful and magical, like you said. I thought the faeries would peek around at any moment.

Profile Information

What do you love most about Ma Earth?
I am a gardener and community educator. My gardens are usually edible landscapes. I love hiking and swimming and being in nature, able to watch the stars, observe the native plants, watch the birds, and enjoy the fresh air. Nature is my sanctuary. I realize we need to organize to protect/restore her. And I need to make many personal changes in life style.
What environmental issue concerns you most?
Rampant growth and development that is auto dominant.
Who is your Eco Hero/Heroine?
My Eco Heroine is Sr. Carol Coston, a green sister. www.sisterfarm.org Please support the project as they are helping many by showing the way with a model of right living.
What actions are you taking to help heal the Earth?
Organizing educational events in my community on sustainable living, voluntary simplicity, alternative energy sources, community gardens, biking and walking more, and driving less. We also focus on social justice and community building to create a compassionate community locally and to reach out globally.
What's the best eco quote you've ever heard?
Great journeys begin long before the first step. We need to dream a world of reverent living into being.
What is your favorite green website?
http://www.rhizomecollective.org
What gives you the greatest hope for the future of the planet?
I am heartened by news of all the grassroots groups working for peace, justice, conservation, communication, women's development, and more. This web of collaboration and leadership is growing and very dynamic. Listening to the Universe Story, by Briane Swimme and Thomas Berry also gives me perspective. This is our cosmology now, and we can unite with this story to reframe our worldview and work together for the future.
What is your funniest eco moment?
Camping on Shi Shi Beach on the Olympic Peninsula, in Olympic National Park, the far NW corner of Washington State, with the chipmunks. After backpacking into the beach, I tried to sleep on a big tree limb during the rain all day. Everytime I fell asleep they would run up on top of my chest to check me out and wake me up. I was amazed they had no fear. Other wildlife was the same. It is a protected and remote area, so few have been hunted or hurt by human activity. It was a magical environment.

Eco photos show the beauty and destruction of Mother Earth. Pictures sound the alarm; wake us up; and motivate us toward activism.

ECO KUDOS

The Indianapolis Prize is the largest individual monetary award for animal species conservation in the world and is given as an unrestricted gift to the chosen honoree by the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation.

The award is not designed to be a quiet, academic, scientist-focused event, but instead an energetic and spectacular celebration of conservation victories. The goal is to inspire the general public to start caring about conservation, and to place heroes, who live in tents in danger of both wild beasts and poachers, on the pedestal that we usually reserve for sports and entertainment stars.

The recent East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress held in Manila, Philippines, concluded with the signing of the Agreement Recognizing the Legal Personality of Partnerships in the Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia. This Agreement creates a fully-fledged international body to work for sustainable development of the region’s coastal and marine areas.

With both acknowledged and possible calamities as compelling and urgent
catalysts, Raincoast Conservation is advocating for British Columbia's first fully protected salmon runs. The move is an effort to save the grizzly bear species.

This bold and ambitious proposal runs contrary to the historical underpinnings of salmon management, as fisheries managers have always assumed that salmon exist exclusively for human consumption.

According to Raincoast, it is a matter of competition, and the odds are stacked against carnivores in these coastal salmon forests.

TAKE ACTION!

Become part of the Backyard Revolution and landscape for wildlife.

Replace your lawn with native shrubs, flowers and trees. Plant a butterfly garden, and put in a pond. You'll benefit from the beauty and tranquility of your yard, and wildlife will benefit from the food and water sources that you provide.

Need some guidance? Read the book Bringing Nature Home.

Half of all animal species will be extinct in our lifetime, unless emissions peak by 2020. Cut greenhouse gas emissions by reducing your energy consumption, learning more about climate change and getting active in community efforts to heal the Earth. Become part of the solution.
