About me

Degree in Filologia Germânica at Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Coimbra (1971-76).
Teacher of English since 1974/75 at state schools in Águeda, Angra do Heroismo, Ponta Delgada, Famalicão, Mondim de Basto, Penafiel (1), (2), (3), (4) e Espinho. (5), (6), (7), (8), (9), (10), (11), (12), (13), (14), (15), (16), (17).
Participated in several refreshment courses for teachers of English in Portugal (18), the USA (Philadelphia 1985 (19)) the UK (Brighton 1987 (20), Bath 1989 (21), (22), (23, in Norwich 2004) (24), (25), 26).) and in Eire (Cork 1994).
Gave short courses and presented papers at schools and at conventions organized by the APPI.
Co-authored two English textbooks: Link Up (ASA 1995) and Gateway (ASA 1996).
Published articles in the newsletter and APPI Journal.
Colaborated with GAVE. (1996-2006)
Colaborated with the project BritLit (British Council do Porto, 2004-2008)
Took part in many activities organized by the Clube do Ambiente da ES Dr Manuel Gomes de Almeida.
Accompanied groups of young people on summer courses in England (Great Malvern-1989, Ashford-1990, Littlehampton-1991, London-1992, Bath-1993, London-1994, Oxford-1995, York-1996, Hertford-1997 (27), Hertford-1999, Basingstoke-2001, London - 2008) (28), (29), (30), (31), (32), Wales (Camarthen-2000), Scotland (Edinburg-2002 (33), (34), (35), (36), (37), (38) and 2005 (39), (40), (41), (42)), Eire (Dublin-1998 (43), (44)) and the USA (Boston-2007 (45)).
Wrote for the local weeklies Espinho Vareiro (1990-1997) and Maré Viva (1998-2000; 2009-).
Reading, walking, cycling and blogging on green issues (Ondas3) are my main hobbies.

ECO KUDOS

With both acknowledged and possible calamities as compelling and urgent
catalysts, Raincoast Conservation is advocating for British Columbia's first fully protected salmon runs. The move is an effort to save the grizzly bear species.

This bold and ambitious proposal runs contrary to the historical underpinnings of salmon management, as fisheries managers have always assumed that salmon exist exclusively for human consumption.

According to Raincoast, it is a matter of competition, and the odds are stacked against carnivores in these coastal salmon forests.

I've seen this. It's quite disturbing. It reminds me so much of Bear Baiting. I feel the same way about fur-trappers. They catch the animal using a horrible leg-hold trap or snare... and then when they see that they've caught it, they club it over...
