Thank you for the compliments on my blog. I have begun posting some of them here and mean to post more as time goes on. One of my biggest goals is to raise awareness.

Again, thank you so much for everything you do. I'll be sure to refer any questions I have regarding the Sun Bear to you.

Thanks,
Ashley

Hello Wong,

I became a member of UFP a couple months ago and I feel the need to tell you...

Your work is absolutely inspiring to me. I am now, sitting where you were a couple of years ago as a university student determined to give their life to conservation and the animals of the Earth. My interest are somewhat similar and yet very different, but you are slowly becoming one of my idols. The saying, "Lions, Tigers, and Bears! Oh my!" was, in my opinion, made for me. I hope to work with large carnivores like large cats and bears for the rest of my life. The work you've done has convinced me that it's possible. As well, I'm very sorry for the tragedies you must face everyday with the poor Sun Bears. It's so upsetting to see the things people do to animals without even a second thought. Everyday, my heart drops a little more with the approach of full-onslaught tiger farming, the pre-existing torture of bears, and the persecution of all our charismatic megafauna. You're a beautiful person and thank you sooooo soooo much for what you do each day. You are an inspiration to all of us students scratching at the graduation gate, desperately waiting to get out there in field with you and make a difference...

With love and admiration,
Ashley

Hi Wong -
I've got the video of the Borneo forests burning on the main page, to help make people aware of this issue and how it affects wildlife. I plug you and send folks to your blog. Keep me posted on your conservation concerns so we can keep generating awareness about the habitat issues in Borneo, which so desperately affect the sun bears. Be sure and blog about the construction of the bear houses here, and anything else relevant to the conservation work you are doing.

Hi There Wong!
It was great chatting with you on Skype this morning, and I was so glad to read where Animals Asia has two rescued sun bears in their new Vietnam bear sanctuary. I"ve posted info about it at Ursa Freedom Project and will post something here at ecopaparazzi too.

Let's chat again soon.

HI Wong -
One of the members at Ursa Freedom Project has created a new blogspot that includes moon bears and sun bears. You might like to take a look at what she has created. She's still working on it, but it's a good site for linking to other blogs, websites and networks dealing with moon and sun bears.

ECO KUDOS

The Indianapolis Prize is the largest individual monetary award for animal species conservation in the world and is given as an unrestricted gift to the chosen honoree by the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation.

The award is not designed to be a quiet, academic, scientist-focused event, but instead an energetic and spectacular celebration of conservation victories. The goal is to inspire the general public to start caring about conservation, and to place heroes, who live in tents in danger of both wild beasts and poachers, on the pedestal that we usually reserve for sports and entertainment stars.

The recent East Asian Seas (EAS) Congress held in Manila, Philippines, concluded with the signing of the Agreement Recognizing the Legal Personality of Partnerships in the Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia. This Agreement creates a fully-fledged international body to work for sustainable development of the region’s coastal and marine areas.

With both acknowledged and possible calamities as compelling and urgent
catalysts, Raincoast Conservation is advocating for British Columbia's first fully protected salmon runs. The move is an effort to save the grizzly bear species.

This bold and ambitious proposal runs contrary to the historical underpinnings of salmon management, as fisheries managers have always assumed that salmon exist exclusively for human consumption.

According to Raincoast, it is a matter of competition, and the odds are stacked against carnivores in these coastal salmon forests.
